An interesting night

As Logan's bedtime approached, Sam was doing the normal bedtime routine. He told Logan that it was time for "nigh nigh" as Logan calls it and Logan ran straight for his toddler bed. (We had that set up a little while ago for Logan to get used to.) But Sam instead picked him up and placed him in the crib to which the immediate response was dramatic screaming. After discussing it for a brief minute or two, we decided to go ahead and give the toddler bed a try since Logan has been very interested in it. Sam stayed with him for a little while, but Logan thinks that whenever dad is nearby, it's time for play. So Sam left him alone in the room figuring that Logan would eventually go to his bed and fall asleep. We could hear various noises of books being pulled of the shelf, dresser drawers opening, a little boy trying to open the door, etc., but after about 5 minutes it all went quiet. We figured that he had gone to bed and had fallen asleep. I was beyond excited. Just 17 months and already he wanted to sleep in the toddler bed and it actually worked. Or so we thought. This is what we found when we went to check on him later.

He had taken his blankets and without a fuss, fell asleep at the bedroom door. It was quite the challenge to get in the room as his head was right at the door. The picture was taken with the door open just a crack and sliding the camera through. We had many attempts at the picture since we couldn't see what we were doing. I was surprised he didn't wake up with all the flash that was going off. Eventually, Sam was able to get in and put Logan in his crib.

So the toddler bed didn't work out tonight. But we're not worried, there's no rush. Maybe we'll try again tomorow night, maybe not. If anyone has suggestions on how to make the transfer, we'd love to hear them.

Katie did that all the time. We would have to carefully move her head and body out of the way to open the door. I think you just keep putting him to bed in his bed and wait it out. He didn't complain and he did fall asleep.

When Katie got so that all she did was play for hours we took away her books and toys, but then she just talked to herself for hours. As long as they're happy, right?

Audra considers it a punishment to have to sleep in her crib now, so we tell her that if she doesn't lay down and sleep in her toddler bed she has to sleep in her crib. At night time she goes right to sleep, but while naptime was going well, she has had to be in her crib the last couple of days for her nap. I'm glad we still have that option!

I love that picture!! That's great that it only took a couple of nights for him to get used to a new bed. I wonder when we'll make the transition with Thomas!
